self catering country house romania for hiking holidays in the transylvania carpathians near sibiu
Casa Pelu The country house is situated in the pastoral village of Vale, directly at the feet of the Carpathian Mountains, and just a stone's throw away from the mediaval city of Sibiu in Transylvania. It houses the completely refurbished living quarters of an abandoned farm, in which tradition meets modernity.
During the renovation every square meter was handled with attention to detail. On the solid foundations of wine cellar and mezzanine floor we set a new attic with access to a cosy roof terrace. Now, this country cottage is ideal for hiking holidays and families looking for a child-friendly countryside retreat in Romania.
The walk-in kitchen (13 sqm) is located on the mezzanine floor. It features two entrances and is fully equipped for self catering, with a fridge, gas stove, coffee maker, and espresso machine, as well as a toaster, kettle, spices, and more.
The first room (17 sqm) leads off the kitchen. Three windows open the view to the courtyard and onto an alley where goats and sheep pass by in the evenings.
An outside staircase with a balcony landing leads to the two light-filled rooms in the attic. The first one (13 sqm) is a connecting room and the second room (17 sqm) leads onto the roof terrace.
Years ago, when dismantling the completely rotted roof the peculiarity of this spot was revealed, and we were thrilled by the thought to set up a cozy terrace here. The view goes up to the village church or into the vegetated courtyard.
The rooms each have a double bed, mirror wardrobe, corner bench or armchair, as well as WiFi internet and two LED TVs. On your arrival you will find the beds freshly made.
The bathroom (8 sqm), that used to be the summer kitchen of the farm, is located underneath the terrace. It is equipped with a shower, bathtub, washing machine, and a toilet. Hand and bath towels are provided, as well as soap and shower gel.
The furnishing is high quality and chosen with care, including sanitary facilities, kitchen utensils, mattresses, and bedding. All furniture, newly installed windows, doors, and stairs were consistently made to measure.
The solar-assisted central heating is backed up threefold. Either you fire up the water-bearing tiled stove in the kitchen, which supplies all the radiators in the house, or an automatic control takes over the job and starts a gas heater. You can set the temperature with a room thermostat.
The enclosed courtyard is a leafy feast for the eyes. Here you can relax on another covered terrace, uncork a bottle of wine, or unpack the card game. Or leave the house, walk a few steps past the village church, and you are already in the middle of a healthy mixed forest and on your way up to the mountain meadows.
The property lies on a hillside in the loosely built part of the village. A few minutes of walking up the slope will reward you with a view into the vastness of the valley and might entice you to a hike into the mountains above.
